Green Building, Center for Earth Sciences, MIT

I. M. Pei

Pei designed the plan for this section of the MIT campus and three buildings as well--the Green Building, a skyscraper of twenty-one stories, and two strongly horizontal buildings, the Dreyfus Building and the Landau Building. Although of concrete, the color of the Green Building is similar to the limestone of neighboring structures.

This interesting image of the Green Building was photographed by Ian Shields. He owns the copyright and should be contacted directly if you are interested in the use of his photograph: Ian Shields.

The Calder stabile, Big Sail, is in front of the Green Building at the entrance to the courtyard from Memorial Drive.

Other buildings by I. M. Pei on this site include:Cleo Rogers Memorial Library, Dreyfus Building, MIT, East Building, National Gallery of Art, John F. Kennedy Library, John Hancock Tower, Landau Building, MIT, Louvre Entrance, and National Bank of Commerce.
