Oakland Museum of California--page 1

Kevin Roche and John Dinkeloo and Associates
1969

The Museum of California is actually three museums devoted to art, history, and natural sciences. Largely underground on three levels, the roof of one building becomes the terrace of another level. The buildings are constructed of cast-in-place concrete with a sand-blasted finish.

This large museum has galleries, terraces, patios, courtyards, sculpture gardens, and reflecting pools. The lucite sculpture, Tragamon, is by Bruce Beasley and the ceramic "pond" in the pool is by David Gilhooly.
