Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center, University of Miami--page 1 (of three pages)

	A neo-traditional building Designed by Leon Krier, theorist and innovator in traditional architecture and urbanism, this addition to the architecture school houses a lecture hall, an exhibition space, and multimedia classroom. The School of Architecture at the University of Miami is known for its interest in New Urbanism, a movement which supports traditional ideas about planning and design that many Modernist architects have rejected. Krier himself is most famous for his design of the English model town of Poundbury for the Prince of Wales.
Like the other buildings of the complex, it is white stucco. (See Marion Manley's international style buildings designed in the 1940's.) In contrast, however, his octagonal auditorium with obvious buttresses on each face and crowned with a tower and belfry seems positively medieval when placed beside the Bauhaus-inspired buildings of the rest of the architecture school.
