Alice Pratt Brown Hall houses the Shepherd School of Music. It terminates the main axis of the campus at the west end, just before the parking lot for the football stadium. Logically the long west side of the building contains several performance halls (with the parking clearly adjacent). The campus-side (or east side of the building) is the academic side with studios, classrooms, practice rooms, and offices.
The west sideAt almost 130,000 square feet, the building is more than 460 feet long. The uneven skyline silhouette results from the various sizes and acoustic requirements of the performance halls contained within.
Details of the west sideUnlike the Jones Graduate School of Management Building to the north, Bofill's building seems unrelated contextually to earlier architecture on campus--except for the use of St. Joe brick. |
