People's Savings and Loan Association Bank

Louis Sullivan
1917-18

The front facade

Toward the end of his career Sullivan designed several modest banks in the Midwest. Like the Auditorium building in Chicago and the National Farmer's Bank, this bank in Sidney also uses the arch as an element of the design.

The side facade

The structure is a simple geometric block (or cube). Even on this small scale, it still has the sense of a podium or base (the black marble) and a modified cornice--elements characterizing his skyscrapers.

Other Sullivan buildings on this site include: the Auditorium Building, the Gage Building and the Wainwright Building.
