One Cleveland Center

Hugh Stubbins and Associates

The so-called "silver chisel"

This skyscraper, shaped like a prism, seems akin to this architect's Citicorp Center, completed in 1978. Both violate the International style tenet of the flat roof and opt for a dramatic skyline identity. At 31 stories, it is the fifth tallest building in Cleveland and its unusual roof lines can be seen from various vantage points throughout the city.

Just as the top varies from the International style cigar-box on end, so too the base has a five-story garden atrium. The photograph below, right, shows the edge of the Tower at Erieview by Harrison and Abramovitz, a typical International style tower.
