Detroit Public Library

Italian Renaissance building This library, along with the Detroit Institute of Arts and other historical structures, is part of the Cultural Center Historic District in Detroit, originally part of the City Beautiful movement which established the area around Woodward Avenue as the cultural center of the city. See this map for orientation. A prominent American architect, Gilbert also designed the Woolworth Building, the U. S Supreme Court building, the St Louis Museum of Art, the West Virginia State Capitol, and many other buildings of note.
