Hadrianic roundels on the north face--left, the left side; center, the right side

These roundels are about 40 inches in diameter

Roundels on the north face, left

The left hand roundel depicts an emperor hunting a wild boar. This subject emphasizes the virtue of the hunter, typically involved in the chase, and also appears in Roman sarcophagi. The other roundel depicts Constantine (a recut head) sacrificing to the god Apollo

Hadrianic roundels, north face, right side depicting sacrifices to the various gods with porphyry inlays mostly intact

Note the halo to signify the sacred character of the emperor in the central figure, middle image.

Hadrianic roundels, south face, left and right

Left: a hunting party leaving the city and a sacrifice to a god; center: bear hunting and a sacrifice to a god/goddess?

Trajanic relief in the passageway

The image of the Roman rider rearing over a fallen enemy recurs in heroic imagery.

Details of the central arch with the winged Victories holding trophies.

The side arches also have spandrel figures, including personifications of river deities.
