Unlike many of the hotels on South Beach, this one is imposing both in height and formality. Although not so tall by skyscraper standards, it does have the set backs associated with skyscrapers of this era. See, for example, the American Radiator Building (1924), the McGraw-Hill Building (1930), the Daily News Building (1930), and the Chrysler Building (1930) in New York City. It also has an impressive three-story entrance portal with porthole windows, a reminder of the nautical style found in a number of smaller Art Deco hotels in South Beach. | ||
