Sir Denys Lasdun
1975-9

The long front

This building providing offices, class rooms and lecture halls is contemporary with Lasdun's Royal National Theatre on the South Bank. Both are in concrete and in the so-called "Brutalist" idiom. (See, for examples the works of Paul Rudolph or John M. Johansen.) Although the glass curtain wall is elegant, the long structure (almost 800 feet) is varied only by repeated triangular sections at the base, now somewhat masked by plantings.
