Chartres Cathedral, North Transept Side Tympana

1205-1240

The left portal: the Doorway of the childhood of Christ

The tympanum depicts at the top the adoration of the Magi and the sleep of the Magi; the nativity and annunciation to the shepherds are on the lintels.

The right portal: Doorway of the Old Testament

The tympanum depicts the suffering of Job with God in the apex (sorry about the real nesting dove); the judgment of Solomon is in the lintel. See this motif at South Transept, Strasbourg Cathedral.
