State reception room--the west wall This third floor room for state events is not only sumptuous but contains a number of historic artifacts. Marble from Italy lines the walls (violet Bresche marble--the same as facing my fireplace in my home built before this capitol!) while the world's largest single-loom carpet (at the time of installation--by Mohawk Company) covers the floor. Tiffany bead-glass chandeliers and sconces light this elegant room used for ceremonial occasions. The carpet protects a teak floor in a herringbone design, exposed only for special events like the governor's inaugural ball. Historic artifacts include a 42-star flag displayed above the west fireplace; this flag, from Washington's statehood celebrations in 1889, was never an official United States flag since Idaho was admitted to the union a year after Washington.
