	Streetside view Johnson acknowledges that much of this building was based on an unexecuted design by the French architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux--his so-called House of Education published in his Visionary Architects (1773-79). The building was initially controversial because it was a "copy."
The building has four stories of design studios arranged around a skylit atrium. The square open-roofed tempietto on the top of the building has a glass floor--the ceiling of the main building. (See interior views.)
