The Hemisfèric was the first building of the complex, completed in 1998. Resembling a large eye, this building contains an Imax Cinema, Planetarium and Laserium. It opens to reveal the dome, the pupil of the eye, which is the Ominax theater. "Located directly beneath its semi-spherical pupil is the IMAX cine complex. An ingenious engineering mechanism even enables the eyelids and eyelashes to actually open and close" (Milláas 184).
