Frescoes

Brumfield explains that "the main portal is surrounded on the exterior by frescoes on the theme of the acceptance of Christianity in Russia" (102) These frescoes are terribly worn and may not be original in any case. Thus far I have found no commentary on these paintings and am clueless as to their subjects.

Eight painted full-length standing saints flanking the entrance

Two on each side face the front and two are on the inside of the pier.
