Benjamin Franklin "Ghost Structures," Franklin Court

Venturi Scott Brown and Associates
1976

In this brick courtyard Franklin's house and printshop once stood. Although they were razed in the early nineteenth century, the house is known to have been 3 stories high, about 33 feet square with 10 rooms. These ghost structures, built for the 1976 bicentennial, indicate the space the house and printshop once occupied.

At ground level visitors can look through windows (with the concrete "awnings") to see the foundation, wells, and privy pits of the demolished house.
