The Barnes Foundation Museum--page 1 (of two pages)

Paul Philippe Cret
1925
Technically the place should be cited as Merion Pennsylvania, not Philadelphia.

After buying the Wilson Arboretum in 1922, Dr. Albert C. Barnes hired Paul Philippe Cret, a professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, to design the gallery and adjoining residence to be sited on this twelve-acre collection of rare trees. The style is essentially Renaissance with its characteristic symmetry and the most simple of classical orders. Doric columns and pilasters flank the entrance while the elegant balustraded balcony above has triple windows. The two-story building is faced with limestone.
