Legorreta + Legorreta
1998

Side entrance with the stand-alone Tipton Hall (with the pyramidal sky line) to the left

Tipton Hall, entered on the opposite side, is a small auditorium for about 100 people, for lectures, seminars, movies, and theater.

A low tower focusses the entrance and covered corridors form a processional way. The many loggias and arcades with adjacent courtyards give the sense of outdoor rooms while the thick walls and stocky proportions have a protective quality. All decoration is eliminated--doors, entrances, and windows lack moldings.

Humorous sculpture

Several pieces of sculpture are sited around the building--as befits a college of art and design. Note the lifeguard off-duty sign and the shallow trench leading to the dry pool.
