Chabot Museum

Gerrit Willem Baas
1938-39

This house is located in the Museumpark between the Netherlands Architecture Institute and the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Originally a private house, designed for C. H. Kraaijeveld, this residence today is a museum featuring the work of the Expressionist painter and sculptor, Hendrik Chabot.

A white modern "villa"

The architect, Gerrit Willem Baas, worked with Brinkman & Van der Vlugt (see the Sonneveld House) in the style of New Objectivity.

Graceful cement balcony

While this residence is indebted to his former employers, it also is less rectilinear and more graceful with the rounded balcony and its roof.
