begun in 1650s and completed by 1750






A fire destroyed the church interior on December 31, 1939. Fortunately the interior had been photographed earlier (by Guillermo Kahlo, Frida Kahlo's father) so that reconstructions of the interior could accurately if less sumptuously copy the original. The interior is radiant with plasterwork and gilding.

The relatively small church has a single narrow nave and no side aisles.
