Agua Azul, Chiapas

The blue waters

The Agua Azul (Blue Water) Biosphere Reserve is about 50 km from Palenque--that is, a short distance after (or before) seeing the famous ruins. The intense shade of blue is created by the effect of limestone beneath the waters. The Agua Azul Cataracts are formed by the rapid descent of the waters in a short space.
