Los Angeles Central Library and Extension

Bertram Goodhue
Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates

The main facade

This landmark building, one of the last designed by Goodhue, has a tall central tower, topped by a tiled mosaic pyramid. See also his skyscraper State Capitol building in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Like the piers between the windows in the Nebraska State Capitol, these terminate in figural sculpture. Other figurative sculpture decorates the entrances. Lee Lawrie was responsible for the bas reliefs and statuary.
