Ambulatory mosaics, mid fourth century C. E.

These mosaics on the barrel vault depict secular themes--patterns of found objects scattered with fruit, birds, vessels, foliage. In some areas there are interlaced medallions with birds and mythological figures.

Note that some of the images were taken with a flash, some with high speed settings on the camera; thus the color is different.
 

Profusion of motifs

This section of the ambulatory motifs depicts a profusion of natural elements--branches, floral motifs, a variety of birds, and vessels that suggest a ritual function. See details below.
