		The 164 foot octagonal dome The concourse (see below) and the pendentives of the dome represent allegorical subjects, according to some sources the union of church and state as a result of the nationalist revolution of 1848. Other sources say the mosaics represent Europe, Asia, Africa and the United States.

	Floor mosaics in the concourse Thanks so much to Stefano Ceccarini, Livorno, Italy (student of Engineering at Pisa's University) and Regina Seiler for identifying the subjects of the floor mosaics for me. Here in the center the coat of arms stands for the Italian royal family at the time the Galleria was built--the house of Savoy.
