Nuclear Energy

Henry Moore
1967
University of Chicago campus, near the Max Palevsky Residential Commons

Moore's bronze sculpture, on a small raised plaza, is at the site of world's first nuclear reactor, Chicago Pile-1. According to Wikipedia, this spot is the "exact location where the Manhattan Project team devised the first nuclear reactor to produce the first self-sustaining controlled nuclear reaction under the former stands of Stagg Field" where the experiment took place under the leadership of Enrico Fermi.
