Commentators on architecture often subdivide Art Deco into different styles from Mayan Deco to Chinese Deco to Indian Deco. This Jewish temple is sometimes described as Egyptian Deco, a rather peculiar influence given that Egypt is predominantly Moslem. The heavy front bears a slight resemblance to Egyptian temple pylons (pre-Moorish, of course) but the geometric decoration seems more like Spanish Moorish designs. (See, for example, the Alhambra and the Alcázar in Seville). |
