Sherbrooke Hotel

MacKay and Gibbs
1947
901 Collins Avenue

A nautical look

Looking something like a barge, this white hotel, with blue and red trim, looks ready for a jaunt down the Mississippi. Complete with porthole windows, it only lacks a paddle wheel. Although it is only three stories tall, the corner parapet gives the appearance of a fourth story. The eyebrows are only partly continuous and like the syncopated fenestration, form horizontal accents on the sides. See the earlier Essex House Hotel for a similar style.
