An eccentric "neo-classical" facadeNo 13, the central house, was Soane's main residence, athough he incorporated parts of the adjacent houses. This residence is now a fascinating private museum showcasing both the eccentrically designed spaces by the architect as well as his vast collections. Although Soane is sometimes described as a neo-classical architect, romantic/picturesque ideas recur in his later works. See, for example, his stables at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. |
