Auraria Library, Auraria Campus

Helmut Jahn and C. F. Murphy Associates
1976

The late Modern library on the urban Auraria campus was designed by German-born Chicago architect Helmut Jahn--one of his early commissions. Horizontality is emphasized--by the flat roof, ribbon windows and continuous louvers (or sun screens). It is clad in glass and white anodized aluminum panels.

The library is shared by three colleges: the downtown Denver campus of the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State College of Denver, and Community College of Denver.

Side elevation and rear

The back elevation has fewer windows and this side elevation lacks louvers, presumable because on this side they are unnecessary as sun screens.
