Charles Bulfinch
1813-14

Sometimes called the first American professional architect, Charles Bulfinch studied in Europe, after graduating from Harvard, and imported the new Neo-classical architectural style to the United States. Bulfinch worked in Boston for several decades until in 1817 he became architect of the U. S. Capitol, a post he held until 1830.
