late 1950's or early 1960's

All of these images were photographed by my brother, Doug Miller.

Born in Italy in 1898, Beniamino Benvenuto Bufano came to the United States at young age with his family. After studying art in New York City, he eventually moved to San Francisco where he taught both at UC-Berkeley and at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. He died in 1970. Peace, one of his most famous works, was located outside the San Francisco Airport for almost 40 years. It was recently moved to make way for a parking garage, but was restored and relocated near Lake Merced.
