Christian chapels, The Mezquita--page 5 (of 6 pages)

8th century; 1236 rededicated to Christian use; 1520's--cathedral built inside the mosque

The Capilla de Villaviciosa

This chapel, opposite the Mihrab, was constructed within the mosque in 1377. Notable are the convoluted mudéjar arches.

The Capilla Real [Royal Chapel]

This funeral chapel was built for Fernando IV and Alfonso XI of Castile. Although it is usually closed off to the public, one can still see the stucco and azulejo decoration--great examples of mudéjar art.

Some of these photographs were taken with flash, which renders the color differently (grayer).
