The House of the Vettii, 2nd century BCE; rebuilt 62-79 CE
This is one of the best-preserved houses in Pompeii. Like most town houses there, it has a reception area in the front; this room--the atrium--has an opening in the roof to admit light and rainwater, the latter being collected in the impluvium in the center of the floor of the atrium. |
