Piazzale and Stazione Cadorna

The loggia of the station This urban renewal project was the result of new transportation to Malpensa Airport. This design for the metro station and adjoining plaza provides covered walkways and retail stores in a playful, lively environment.
Aulenti's plan included organization of the pedestrian zone and rearrangement of the road system.
		The joining covered pathways with transparent roofs are reminiscent of the iron and glass railway stations of the 19th century. See also Gae Aulenti's redesign of the Gare d'Orsay (the former railway station) in Paris for the major museum of nineteenth century French art.
Surprising waterfalls The exuberance of this design is seen in both the colors--teal and bright red as well as the surprise of water. The transparent roofs have beams carrying water which terminates in waterfalls caught in shallow basins. Across from the station in the plaza the public sculpture by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen adds to the wit and joy of the area.
