An 18 storey building, Forum Tower is one of the three tallest buildings at Potsdamer Platz and forms a gateway into the area as well as being prominent a landmark for the new city center. It is at the north end of the area and is a neighbor to the Kollhoff Tower and yet one building over from the Sony Center tower. The name of the skyscraper is important when one recalls that the Forum in ancient Roman cities was the center of social, legal, and economic life. It is situated on a triangular site, a fact the building's shape repeats with its ship's prow front in dazzling glass. Like Piano's Atrium Tower, this building also uses an energy-efficient double glass facade. Like other structures in Potsdamer Platz, this building too is faced with yellow-ocher terracotta bricks. Seen from the rear (image on the right side below), the cladding is clear and the step down also associates it with the height of other buildings behind it. | ||
