Public housing on a corner siteAccording to Hervé Martin, this public housing project was the "final installment of the place du Docteur-Navare renovation project. It was "designed to synthesize all the buildings which surround it'" (144). He adds that the structure was clad in brick to match the materials in the area and that the recessed facade as well as the vertical ends of the building are typical of other buildings in the neighborhood. He also notes that the interior of the porch is clad in brick to minimize the distinction between the interior and exterior of the building. | ||
Like Portzamparc's projects in this area (the 13th arrondissement), this avoids sterile repetition and the modern tower. (See the Home for the Elderly--just down the block from this building and the project on Rue des Hautes-Formes.) |
