George W. Woodruff Physical Education Center, Emory University

John Portman
1983

This huge physical education center, which includes a sports medicine clinic as well as the usual gymnasium, swimming pool, and others sports necessities, is almost buried in the ground. A central hall, with many facilities visible through glass panes, traverses the length of the structure.

Other buildings on the Emory University campus on this website include: Alumni Memorial Hall by Ivey and Crook, William R. Cannon Chapel by Paul Rudolph, Michael C. Carlos Hall (Lamar School of Law) by Henry Hornbostel, Michael C. Carlos Museum by Michael Graves, and R. Howard Dobbs University Center by John Portman.
