Julia Morgan's own home and her adjacent rental property

Boutelle explains that in the mid 1920's Morgan purchased these two adjacent houses in San Francisco, using one (on the right) for her own residence, and remodeling the second for two rental properties. Although both houses were originally two stories (with attic and basement as well), she removed the top two stories from the rental apartments (160).
Boutelle describes the remodeling of these Victorian houses as "Italianate" (160) without elaborating on what features Morgan actually added. The pediments over the apartment entrance and over the top story window qualify as Italianate, as do the pilasters framing the main door and colonnettes (sometimes pilasters) framing the windows. This kind of remodeling illustrates again Morgan's eclecticism; she was comfortable and proficient in borrowing the vocabulary from a vast repertoire of architectural styles.
