French-influenced art decoThis smallish cosmetics store has wonderful art deco terra cotta ornament (designed by Julius Ambrusch) in both geometric and organic forms. Fluted pilasters, which flank each bay, terminate in flaring forms. Decorative roundels with foliate forms are spaced at the top between the flared "capitals." And bands of horizontal ribbons accentuate the top and bottom of the facade. The decoration in the spandrel panels is not precisely symmetrical, although it reads from a distance as balanced. |
