Columbia Plaza (now Amoco Tower)

Kohn Pedersen Fox
1980

Originally built for Columbia Savings, this 35 story skyscraper was bought by the oil company it was then named for. Since the logo at its top now says TIAA-CREF, I am assuming it has been sold again. It is located at the head of 17th street where two major downtown street grids meet. The curving sides work effectively to emphasize the building's curve around the corner at Broadway. The sleek streamlined look is accentuated by the aluminum spandrels alternating with smoked glass ribbon windows.
