Frank Lloyd Wright

Midway Farm

1938-47
It was always important to Wright to be self-sufficient. At first he had a working farm behind his hilltop home; later new buildings were constructed midway between Taliesin and the Hillside School--thus the name.
The barn is a long building for horses and cattle. The buildings of the working farm also included chicken coops and pig pens. The tower for the creamery (below) was added in 1947.

Romeo and Juliet Windmill

1896
This wooden tower is the oldest existing Wright building in Wisconsin. However, the original shingle siding has been replaced. Juliet, the octagonal section, and Romeo, the diamond section, form the tower with the windmill and drive in the taller Romeo section and a stairway and observation deck in the shorter Juliet part.
