Henry Art Gallery, new addition, University of Washington

The original red brick building was designed by Carl Gould. (See his Art Deco gem, the Seattle Asian Art Museum.) This Tudor Gothic building was expanded, using glass, textured stainless steel and cast stone. The museum's major renovation and expansion, completed in April 1997, increased the museum's size from 10,000 square feet to over 40,000 square feet. Entrance
		The three-story addition (part of which is underground) houses top-lighted galleries, offices, a new lobby, museum store and lecture theater.
Left: the original building; center and right: the James Turrell Skyspace, Light Reign This "environment" cum sculpture cum architecture was unveiled in 2003. The Skyspace experience varies at different times of the year and different times of day. According to Wikipedia, "it is illuminated at night by color-shifting LEDs behind frosted glass" and "like the Seattle baseball stadium, has a retractable roof."
