Distant viewThe grand Monument Avenue is the site for five bronze sculptures of Southern heroes from the past as well as one twentieth century icon: Arthur Ashe, the internationally known tennis star, writer, and social activist. The statue was completed three years after Ashe's death. The placement of this work with Confederate heroes was very controversial. | |
