The West (or Parade) FrontAlexander Jackson Davis (1803-1892), who had a partnership with Ithiel Town, designed state capitols for Connecticut, Indiana, North Carolina and Ohio. (See the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, Ohio.)
Although he was best known as a proponent of the Greek Revivalism, he also designed a number of buildings in the Gothic style. At VMI he designed six buildings in this style (between 1848-1861), several of which still survive. All are built in brick which was then stuccoed to give the appearance of stone.
