Special thanks to my friend, Thanh Hue Tran, who located the following information as well as other details about the cathedral (including the name of the architect): The cathedral was begun in 1958 with the foundation completed in 1960. Because of the lack of money and difficulties during the war, the construction was interrupted until 1962. The catheral was completed and consecrated in 1973.

This cathedral, one of the largest Catholic churches in the Mekong Delta, is located in the central city. The cathedral is 60m long, 18m wide and 20m high. The interior seats more than 1000 worshippers. The church, on a kind of concrete island, is magnificently lighted at night.
 
 

The bell tower

The 164 foot bell tower is in the form of clasped hands, which are then holding the cross.
