Although the cathedral looks like a medieval Gothic church, it was built in the Renaissance (its crossing tower is more classical) in this style since it was replacing a cathedral near the Alcázar which had been destroyed during the revolt of Comuneros in 1521. One enters this cathedral through the north transept portal; the main west entrance is walled off.
 

Views of the cloister

The cloister was designed by Juan Guas. The two architects, Juan Gil de Hontañón and his son Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, are buried inside the cloister.
