The Hatrack

J. Salmon and Son
1902

An eight-story red sandstone building

In the common material, red sandstone, of Glasgow, this building also owes to Glasgow's great architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, in its use of art nouveau carving.

Front facade with drum-shaped stained-glass window over the main entrance

Many of the numerous windows have decorative stonework as well.

Varied windows with decorative sills and pediments

Decorative ironwork balconies and railings

The popular name of the building was inspired by the fantastic ornamental roof since its projecting finials resemble an old-fashioned hatstand.
