Diana, Great Stairway, Philadelphia Museum of Art

Augustus Saint-Gaudens
1892, gilded hollow copper

The nude classical huntress

This work, which dominates the great stairway in the museum, was rescued from the old (actually the second) Madison Square Garden. A copper copy is now on the new Madison Square Garden Tower. The nudity of this work was controversial.
