The Skirvin Hotel is famous for its oilman founder, William Balser Skirvin, and his daughter, Perle Mesta, Washington DC social leader and U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg (1949-1953). Royalty, U.S. presidents, and cattle and oil barons stayed at the Skirvin. The city's oldest hotel, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
