The Rotterdam exchange/Beurs dates back to the late 16th century with earlier buildings supporting these trade fairs. This building was erected prior to World War II and even though it was hit during the Rotterdam Blitz, it could be repaired. In 1984 work was begun on a major addition in the middle of the low-rise structure, the green elliptical office tower. The entrance to the exchange is punctuated by the thin bell-tower and a large upper room supported by slender piers forming a large tall porch. One end has a slightly bowed window overlooking the busy boulevard.
